Significance of positive semen culture in relation to male infertility and the assisted reproductive technology process

چکیده
There are currently no WHO guidelines on the indications for semen culture; however, semen cultures are performed in the evaluation of male infertility and the assisted reproductive technology (ART) process. The relevance and significance of positive semen cultures is widely debated in the literature, with no current consensus on the usefulness of this test in relation to male infertility. We review the pathogenic mechanisms of potentially pathogenic bacteria, general bacteria, urethral flora, and skin flora on sperm parameters. We also present, possible routes of semen contamination, measures to reduce contamination, and the clinical significance of culture contamination. First, it is critical to distinguish round cells in semen as leukocytes from immature germ cells. Second, it is critical to distinguish leukocytospermia from infected semen in order to guide management.

متن کاملP-174: Right to Treatment with Assisted Reproductive Technology
Background: Infertility leads to profound human suffering, particularly on the women. Women's lack of pregnancy is both physically and socially visible, especially in high fertility societies where women are typically blamed for reproductive failures, even in cases of male infertility. Childless women are more likely to be the victims of domestic violence and may also endure various forms ...
متن کاملMicronutrients in Support to The Carbon Cycle Activate Antioxidant Defences and Reduce Sperm DNA Damage in Infertile Men Attending Assisted Reproductive Technology Programs: Clinical Trial Study
Background: Micronutrients in support to the carbon cycle were shown to reduce sperm DNA damage both in animal models and infertile men. Besides supporting DNA methylation, their positive effect may be mediated by an improved performance of the endogenous antioxidant system but this has not yet been proven in clinical settings. The present study aimed at evaluating the effects of micronutrient ...

High ambient temperature is the major constraint on Buffalo productivity. The aim of this study was to evaluate the reproductive performance and thyroid gland function in winter and summer seasons in Khuzestan buffalo bulls. Six male indigenous buffaloes of Khuzestan with nearly the same age (2-3 years old) and weight were used. Semen and blood samples through jugular vein were collected, every...
متن کاملReactive Oxygen Species and Antioxidant in Seminal Plasma and Their Impact on Male Fertility
Spermatozoa generate reactive oxygen species (ROS) in physiological amounts which play a role in sperm functions during sperm capacitation acrosome reaction (AR) and oocyte fusion. In addition damaged sperm are likely to be the source of ROS. The most important ROS produced by human sperm are hydrogen peroxide superoxide anion and hydroxyl radicals. Besides human seminal plasma and sperm posses...
